Cannabis & Fitness: A Natural Duo

Cannabis has the amazing ability to not only help us physically and spiritually, but also channel our creative sides, overcome anxiety, and the most important thing— it helps many of us to simply just relax

As consumers, we tend to think solely about the way that we are consuming in a certain moment, and how it makes us feel after.

Understanding the importance of the physical and mental healing cannabis offers is a great first step to not only eliminating the stigma around it but also discovering the different cannabis consumption methods and how they play a huge role in bodily regulation.

Let’s talk cannabis and fitness.

Cannabinoids & Our Bodies

The information above may lead many of us to ask more about why we are consuming cannabis and how it really interacts with our bodies.

To start, when we consume cannabis, in any form or by any method, we’re putting some type of cannabinoid in our body.

Cannabinoids are compounds found in cannabis that interact with our Endocannabinoid System (ECS).

Furthermore, compounds such as CBD and THC interact with the endocannabinoid receptors in the brain and immune system triggering responses that may serve to balance the ECS.

The Potential Benefits of Cannabis for Fitness

Although we could talk about all of the great benefits cannabis offers for our bodies, for the time being, let’s stick with this simple topic—fitness!

Cannabinoids such as CBD have been shown to offer a wide range of temporary relief from body pain and soreness — while on the other hand—high concentrations of CBD (topically applied) activate our ECS through receptors in our skin which regulate and manage pain and inflammation.

Consumption Methods for Fitness

While cannabis shows promise for a large number of physiological, biochemical, and psychological effects, that have the potential to benefit athletes and aid in our fitness, we should always be aware of how much we consume and how we consume.

Cannabis is a substance that has a biphasic nature meaning it can feel very different at low doses and high doses.

As its nature changes with dosage, every user will also react differently to its properties so if you’re unsure, always consult with your doctor before taking cannabis products for general health, pain, and injuries.

Consuming Before, During, & After Exercise

To finish up, your consumption method and when you consume (or apply) varies on what you’re looking for.

Cannabis and hemp lotions and cremes might be a great option for before or after exercise in order to relieve certain pain or stressed joints.

Some athletes may even benefit from hemp or CBD-infused sports drinks to give us that little extra push during our workouts.

Similarly, there’s nothing wrong with kicking back, lighting up with your favorite chill stone, and enjoying your favorite show to help your sore muscles get some ‘chill time’ after the gym! It’s all about what works for you.
